Top 2007 Fantasy Small Forwards

Unless Shawn Marion is counted as a small forward, LeBron James wins this competition hands down.  He's extremely versatile and is one of the league's best scorers.  Moreover, he's still extremely young, which makes the chance for improvement very good.

That being said, his free throw shooting has decline the last couple seasons.  One of the reasons might be burnout.  The Cavs haven't been able to get him adequate help and teammates like Zydrunas Ilgauskas and others are getting older.

Rashard Lewis will be the go-to-guy in Orlando, as Dwight Howard's offense is still very limited.  What most don't know about Lewis is that, aside from having great three-point range, he has developed the ability to put the ball on the court and penetrate. However, perhaps the best attribute of his game is his ability to post up.  His 6-10 frame comes in handy against smaller players. However, if the defender is able to push him past the 15' mark, he is deadly with his turnaround jump shot and has the length and fade away ability to shoot over almost anyone.

Here are the top five power forwards in fantasy basketball:

  1. LeBron James - Free throw percentage and burn out are only concerns.
  2. Rashard Lewis - Extremely undervalued by most experts. Lewis will be the go-to-guy in Orlando.
  3. Josh Smith - One of the league's best shot blockers at the small forward position.
  4. Gerald Wallace - Had a slow start last season, but post-January put up some insane numbers.
  5. Caron Butler - He would have been one of the top twenty five fantasy players last season had he not gotten injured.

What are the odds of Lewis

What are the odds of Lewis retaining PF status this year? That'd be a nice bonus, and it seems that Orlando doesn't have much depth up front. Outside of Howard, they have:

Adonal Foyle (about 2.5 boards, 1 block & 1.5 fouls per 10 minutes played)

James Augustine (looked decent in preseason)

Pat Garrity (wishes he was SF)

and

Marcin Gortat (nothing special, except that GOOOOORRRR-tat is fun to chant during preseason games)

So I'm hoping (for fantasy purposes) that Battie stays out for a while and I can use Lewis as a combo forward from time to time.
