Rumor Mill: Frye/Gooden Swap? Magloire to New Jersey?

Frye/Gooden Swap?

Cleveland is rumored to be interested in Knicks Forward Channing Frye, which isn't too surprising, since a lot of teams have shown interest in the young, cheap forward. Drew Gooden's name has been throw out there, because of his rebounding (which is a need for the Knicks). However, at this point such a deal seems unlikely. According to the Akron Beacon Journal in Ohio, "Gooden is what is known as a 'base-year compensation' player. In the first year of a new contract, league rules dictate the Cavs can trade him only for 50 percent of his salary value. Not that it would ever prevent a deal from going through; it just complicates trades sometimes."

Magloire to New Jersey? The Nets have apparently made an offer for Portland's Jamaal Magloire. However, many sources say it's doubtful they can pull it off. They offered Jason Collins and a second-round pick. The Nets want a big man and the Blazers want a first-round pick from the Nets with Collins. Collins makes $6.1 million this season and $6.2 million next season. Magloire makes about $8.4 million this season) and will be a free agent after this season. The Blazers have a log jam at center, with Joel Przybilla returning from injury and Raef LaFrentz. The Nets have also apparently shown interest in Charlotte's Melvin Ely, Washington's Brendan Haywood and Cleveland's Anderson Varejao.

Knicks

New York should try going after Magloire, since his contract expires after the season. Might free up some cap space.
