NBA Fantasy Basketball Comebacks of 2007-2008

Going into this fantasy basketball year, I had an unprecedented number of players on my radar with top 50 ranked fantasy years behind them. I figure some of these players would be destined for a comeback, while others would retire into fantasy obscurity. For whatever reason, last year was the year of the injury bug in fantasy hoops. Most of these players are still in starting roles and should see 30+ minutes per game. I believe 30 minutes to be the magical number needed for fantasy relevance, as it's tougher to post significant stats in fewer minutes (though some players do).

So, here is the list:

Brad Miller (Former top 25 player) – Miller had a horrible year last year. He is now 31 years old and is not getting younger. I envisioned him returning to form this year, but through the first couple of games this does not look to be the case. Keep your eye on Miller though. He could return to form at any time if he doesn't continue to show his age. Remember, he lost weight coming into this season. Though, to be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him and Bibby traded at some point in this season.

Richard Jefferson (Former top 50 player) – It looks like Jefferson is healthy and scorching the nets. Congrats if you managed to draft him.

Mike Bibby (Former top 25 player) – Ouch! I was way off on this one. I have always been a Bibby fan when it came to fantasy. If he gets traded and returns from injury, he could have a great second half of the season.

Andrei Kirilenko (Former top 20 player) – AK47 is a fantasy stud. Last year was an anomaly. Trade for him, do whatever, just get him on your team. Now! Stop reading this blog and go propose a trade right now! Besides, he has a cool nickname.

Peja Stojakovic (Former top 10 player) – Peja is another of my fantasy favorites, but back injuries scare me. Expect Peja to be hot and cold this year and maybe even miss some time. Hopefully the back heals and he returns to form.

Chris Kaman (Former top 75 player) – He may not be very attractive, but with Brand hurt Kaman is the man in the middle. Double-doubles should should be plentiful and he is always good for 1.5-2 blocks a game.

Stephon Marbury (Former top 25 player) – For the past two seasons, I always seem to own Marbury hoping that he will break loose. Why does Isiah let everybody else on the team gun-sling the ball, but Marbury can’t? Oh well. Feeding the ball to Curry and Randolph should help his assists return to the 7+ level.

Well said Ray

Kirilenko was a former top 10 player wasn't he? He is one of the few guys who could pull down a quad double (points, boards, steals, and blocks). Not that he ever did, but its possible ;).

I think Peja will have the best year of all the guys you listed. He shoots great percentages, so he doesn't need to take a lot of shots, and he doesn't have to worry about carying the team.  He never seemed to play that well when he was the #1 option.

Miller, Bibby, and Marbury will all be busts. Here's to hoping though.
